Today at Agribition we were able to be part of the presentation of a donation to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation on behalf of Young’s Equipment, MacDon, Väderstad, and Farm Credit Canada. The combined donation of $300,000.00 between the four organizations will fund the purchase of a transport isolette for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This piece of equipment is used to transport babies born in hospitals and communities outside of Regina and who need care in the NICU to Regina to receive that care. This obviously fits well with the communities where we live and do business, and the opportunity to partner with MacDon, Väderstad, and FCC, who we have such strong relationships with, and to support an organization like the HRF, was exceptional.

"Each year, 500 babies need specialized care provided in our NICU in the Rawlco Centre for Mother Baby Care at Regina General Hospital. For babies born outside of Regina, it is critical that our teams have the specialized technology needed to transport these newborns to our NICU in order to survive. Thanks to a generous donation of $300,000 from Young's Equipment Inc. , MacDon Industries Ltd. and Vaderstad Canada, our NICU transport team has a new Transport Isolette, a mobile mini-NICU capable of delivering state-of-the-art, critical care to these fragile babies during their journey to Regina."

Miracle Treat Day usually has Dairy Queen donate a portion of their proceeds to local children’s hospitals, in Saskatchewan that’s Jim Pattison’s Children’s Hospital. This year the event has been posponed, so we decided to make our own our own Miracle Treat Day by ordering blizzards and making a separate donation from our staff’s funds to the foundation.
A donation of $500.00 has been made, on behalf of the Regina’s Social Committee and Regina staff to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Below is a thank you message from Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation:

February 27, 2020 – Today Young’s Equipment announced an in-kind donation of $450,000 for new, state-of-the-art equipment for Agricultural Equipment Technician student and apprentice training at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
“Young’s Equipment is a long-time supporter of Sask Polytech and the Agricultural Equipment Technician program and apprenticeship training,” says Tim Young, general manager, Young’s Equipment. “Today’s $450,000 in-kind donation of equipment for students and apprentices to learn on includes: Case IH front loader, CVT transmission, combine PTO gear box and core, CASE IH MAXXUM tractor, Case Farmall tractor and two Kubota engines.”
“Our heartfelt thanks to Tim Young and the team at Young’s Equipment for your incredible gift today, and for your continued support of our students throughout the past many years,” says Dr. Larry Rosia, Sask Polytech president and CEO. “Your gifts are integral in helping our School of Transportation train the Agricultural Equipment Technicians needed today and into the future. This donation helps Agricultural Equipment Technicians advance their careers, helps employers hire highly qualified technicians and advances Saskatchewan’s agriculture industry and economy.”

Congratulations to Travis Block, Dylan James, Rodney Eisen, and Zachary Fisher (missing in photo) for recieving Apprenticeship Awards for exceptional achievement in their Journeyperson and Apprenticeship Level Agricultural Equipment Technician exams, meeting scholarship requirements of Young’s Equipment Inc. & the Western Equipment Dealer Association.

“We first went there [Ireland] in 2008 following the massive market and real estate crash in the U.S. and around the world,” says Bazin. “Thousands lined up at job fairs and paid money just to get in the door.” Above is just one example of the long lines people stood in to get into job fairs in Ireland.
Brent Bazin, corporate service manager at Young’s Equipment, shared the dealership’s history with international recruitment and why they see it as a valuable option when looking for new employees.
A talented technician cannot be found overnight. When there are not enough near your dealership looking for work, you need to come up with a new strategy to bring in a good technician. Within the few last year, Young’s Equipment has hired a number employees from overseas as part of the international hiring strategy they started over a decade ago.

The Agricultural Equipment Technician program offered through the Sun West Distance Learning Centre has opened the door for high school students to get an understanding of the ag industry and potentially get an early start on careers as technicians.
Finding a good employee and keeping them on has become an increasingly difficult task for many farm equipment dealers. A good service technician is particularly hard to find. What seems to be a consensus among many dealers is younger people do not know enough or do not even consider entering the ag industry.
“Whether they were technicians in the agriculture industry or the trucking industry or the heavy equipment industry, there is becoming a worldwide shortage of technicians,” says Brent Bazin, corporate service manager at Young’s Equipment and board member of the Agricultural Equipment Trade Board for the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC). “A technician today is not the technician we had 20 years ago. It is a lot more intense in terms of technology. Nowadays to get by in this trade you can pretty much be just as successful with anything offered at university. It becomes a matter of ‘Is this what I want to do for a career?’”
